2001 4.0L Sohc

I have a 01 Ranger 4x4 with a bad 4.0L (timing chain slipped). I can get a 4.0L Sohc from a 97 Explorer 4x4 very cheap. Does anyone know if I can make the 97 Explorer engine fit into my 01 Ranger?

The 97 Explorer 4.0 SOHC is a lot bigger than the 2001 Ranger 4.0 SOHC so it won't fit in there ... lol ... J/K

thanks for the info. I can get the 97 engine for about $150, but I can also get an 03 engine for about $850.

I would go with the 2003 4.0 if it has less miles. You might be saving $600 up front but you'll spend more than $600 in the long run, especially if the 97 has timing chain tensioner issues.
