Welcome to the forum

No, they are different kinds of sensors
3 wire is Hall Effect
2 wire is Variable Reluctance

They use different signals, like trying to tune FM radio on an AM only radio, no adapters for that

So you need to use the sensor type that the computer will understand, so if wiring in vehicle is 2 wire then get a 2 wire sensor/synchro, if 3 wire then get a 3 wire sensor/synchro, both are available for the 4.0l OHV engine
The Synchro is the tower the sensor sits on, they are also different for 2 wire and 3 wire

Just a heads up, Rangers used the 4.0l OHV engine from 1990 to 2000
In 2001 Rangers switched to 4.0l SOHC engine, totally different engines, different wiring and different computers, so if you are trying to put a 2003 4.0l SOHC engine in a 1999 Ranger then you will need to change engine wiring harness and computer, plus a few other things

The 4.0l SOHC used cam sensor on the drivers side valve cover, not on synchro tower at back of engine, it was 2 wire
