Engine swapping an 04 Ranger 4x4 with manual trans
Hey all,
I blew my engine a little bit ago and bought one from the same year to replace it with, which allegedly has about 100k fewer KMs.
I'm wondering what parts I might be able to replace/check while the new one is still out and accessible. Additionally, if anyone has any links to resources they found super helpful I'd appreciate those too. I've never done one of these so anything helps!
Thanks,
Jacob

Welcome to the forum
Replace the 2 external timing chain tensioners, needs to be done every 100k miles after that
Replace rear main seal, on any engine when you can, cheap part, hard to get at if it leaks
Inspect the plastic thermostat housing for cracks, it can now be replaced with a metal one
May want to put in a new thermostat, just because
If the intake is off replace the knock sensor, another part that's hard to get at with intake on, it wires get brittle and break
Some would replace the oil pan gasket while an engine is out, and maybe the oil pump, not expensive stuff and can not be done with engine in the vehicle
