Engine to transmission mating issues
Engine to transmission mating issues
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and am looking for some advice! I am doing a motor replacement on my 1999 OHV 4.0 Automatic. I pulled a 4.0 OHV off of a 1999 ford explorer manual at the junkyard. I swapped the fuel rail/injectors, motor mount brackets, and I removed the clutch and flywheel and replaced it with the flywheel and spacer/adapter thing that came off of my original 4.0. The issue I am having now is once i get the new motor dropped in and aligned with the motor mounts the gap between it and the bellhousing is around 2-2.5", too much for me to get any of the bell housing bolts started. The gap is also to big for me to place the transmission shaft in the motor. I originally though that maybe there was a pilot bearing getting in the way or that maybe I installed the flywheel backwards but the flywheel seems to be oriented correct and when I removed it I did not see a pilot bearing in the motor, It looked just like the opening out of my old motor. The transmission is connected to the driveshaft and is being held up by two jacks. Should I just disconnect it from the driveshaft and push it towards the motor? Or could I be using the wrong motor mount brackets / overlooking a bearing that is getting in the way? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am stuck! Thanks
