exhaust ?

lol i know i constantly ask exhaust ?'s but if i gutted all my cats i would get a check engine light...correct? well would this sound like crap? im not worried about inspections because we dont have those in FL. plus cats just suck.

also to the fellow 4.0 rangers...can someone who has a stock exhaust take a pik of the whole exhaust system? because i do nottt see a 3rd cat and i dunno if the guy who put my exhaust cut it off. cause if so im sure my warrenty is already void and might as well cut off the other 2

Why do you want to gut your cat? You will lose power and you will get a CEL all day.

whippersnapper02 May 8, 2008 11:58 AM

Exhausts

sounddeveloper May 8, 2008 11:59 AM

i believe th rangers only come with two cats and what ever you do do not touch your cats only if you want to buy new ones because you will kill your horsepower becuase of your o2 sensors wich also tels your truck how much gas it needs and on top of that every time you hit the gas it sounds like your truck is farting i personally think it sounds like crap if you want to sound a little louder and for cheap just rip your muffeler off and throw a cherry bomb in or something

Downey May 8, 2008 12:09 PM

they dont sound like **** with punched cats it has a nice eco chamber when you punch then and you wont loss power if he still has a full exhaust going out the back it will be fine. if you dont have to worrie about emmisons i would say do it they sound good and dont put a muffler on either straight pipe will sound great i will take a sound clip of my 4.0 later tonight i only have 1 cat

whippersnapper02 May 8, 2008 12:15 PM

You will lose power. I lost power in my truck when I unbolted the exhaust from just behind the third cat. Still had all the cats in but lost power. Why would you want to gut the cats in the first place? It's a stock V6.

i took off my third cat , dualled it out w/ glasspacks, and i didn't lose power.

The third cat is just so the Ranger can qualify for Ultra Low emissions. This other guy wants to gut the 2 forward ones.

Downey May 8, 2008 12:26 PM

what power are you guna loss 5 lbs of torque and 2-3 hp not a big deal get over your self its his truck

whippersnapper02 May 8, 2008 12:29 PM

Lost power is lost power. Also gutting you cats will lead to a loss of MPG. And I believe he asked for my opinion so I stated it.

Downey May 8, 2008 01:01 PM

i gained mpg when i gutted mine so that info isnt always true he is taking a super restrictive exhaust and making it free flowing and if he gets and intake he will be fine.

whippersnapper02 May 8, 2008 01:04 PM

Still though. I don't see a point to it unless the engine has a lot of mods. My friends 06 LS2 GTO has no cats, among other things, and let me just say.... WOW!

Downey May 8, 2008 01:34 PM

cats arent going to hurt him at all go ahead and do it if you can live with an engine light. you get ust to them after a while trust me.

04BlackFX4 May 8, 2008 06:30 PM

I wouldnt, I'd just buy a universal magnaflow cat, it will give it a nice sound. Think of it this way, the truck has what 2.25" piping all the way into a 5" empty can where the cats are then back into 2.25" again then into the muffler..Not good for performance and the sound will sound cheap and very tinny. Plus its illegal to not run a converter...

countryboy fx4 May 8, 2008 07:50 PM

oh well ima just do it...i mean if it turns out bad il just buy those universal cats or get piping pull out the welder and make it straights

It is still illegal to take emissions equipment off of any vehicle regardless if you have inspection or not.

Good luck.

countryboy fx4 May 11, 2008 06:47 PM

sooo i did it and.....its AWESOME. deff didnt lose power it actually feels like i have more throttle response and torque. the sound is soooo much better

the only bad part is its a pain in the ass to do and the check engine light is on

06fx4 L2 May 11, 2008 06:55 PM

so what did you do? just shove a broom handle in there or actualy remove and replace with tubing?

JOSH

Downey May 11, 2008 09:34 PM

haha no actually used a socket extension and a hammer. pretty mch just sit there for a couple hours and break up all th stuff on the inside...beat the crap out of the outside and shake it all out...the only problem i ran into was a stripped bolt and when i put the exhaust back together the connection piece was having a hard time gettin flush and tight together. its still leaking a little and the metal gasket vibrates but im going to get a rubber one and tighten it up on that so it will be all good...sounds great though. more of a throaty deep sound. and it smells awesome. kinda like at a muscle car show lol

bwester04 May 11, 2008 10:30 PM

oh wow.. you just smashed up $1200 worth of OEM emissions equipment? I could understand if the truck was 10+ years old, but on a 2007?? I guess to each their own..

01xltranger4x4 May 12, 2008 08:14 AM

Probably not the brightest idea in the world...

Do you have any sound clips of it now?

Downey May 12, 2008 11:30 AM

yeah i want to hear it

$1200? You can get a standard OEM replacment cat for 50 bucks or just get a high flow race cat for a little more while still remaining emmissions compliant.

It's all in your head dude. Trust me. You dyno it and it will show a loss of power
