building a mild 4.0l need some help.

hello there its been a while since ive been on here.
i have been throwing the idea of building a mild 4.0 and building my trans.
basicly just do a normal rebuild throw a cam and valve train upgrade, maybe do the heads. i rember reading about a guy doing a cam in his while it was in the truck. comp cams makes two different cams cant rember why but most people go with the 410 cam anything wrong with the 422?
also dont know if im asking too much but im getting 16-17 mpg ritre now
(97 4.0l rebuilt 5r55e and 3.08 gears with an x cal from rouge tuning) i want to atleast keet that mileage.
also do i have to get special push rods made to fit the cam, if i rember rite the thread i saw he had to get them made to fit. if so anyone know the leingths?

16-17MPG is right in the ballpark.

My '05 Ranger's window sticker advertised 16MPG city, 19MPG highway. It got right around 15MPG city, and 19-20MPG highway when it was stock.

It's really unfortunate, as you'd think you could get better MPG out of them.

i haven't looked into the cams for your motor since you have OHV and i'm SOHC. i would guess the 422 is too agressive for most and that is why they choose the 410.

ya the 422 isn't aggressive.. it just moved the power band up farther compared to the 410, so if you are off roading i'd say go with the 410, if u are mainly rippin on the street def get the 422 with the necessary valvetrain upgrades

well then maybe that is why people choose the 410 over the 422. they want their power at a lower rpm. makes sense. i'd want low end power too.
