SCT X3

Thinking about getting a SCT X3 tuner but have a few questions. My trucks an 04, 4L, Auto.

1.)Whos a good person to buy the tuner from with good tunes?

2.)Do you notice any MPG change?

3.)What do you notice when you have a tune?

Thanks

Before I start, an X3 is an awesome investment, IMO.

1.) I bought mine from Don at LaSota racing. (lasotaracing.com) He sold me the unit and and tunes for right around $400. I was able to give him all my vehicle info through email and I was also able to talk to him on the phone. He was very knowledgeable and made the tunes exactly the way I hoped for. Another great thing about Don is that he only works on Fords,at least from what I can tell. His internet page is full of mustang pics. Anyways I only ordered two tunes but he gave me an extra too. So that was pretty cool. Lots of people on this site have X3's, and they may have other suggestions for you.

2. I have noticed very little MPG change. Like maybe a half MPG down from stock.

3. On the tune, since you have an auto, this is good. The tunes not only adjust spark, air/fuel ratios, power etc., but the tunes also affect the tranny shift points. The tune I use mainly has really firm shifts b/c I tow alot. Firm shifts are way better for your tranny compared to the smooth more like sluggish stock shifts. This is the biggest change I can notice, but I can tell it def does get up and go compared to stock power. About the tunes, I notice I have the best performance with using the highest octane fuel which is 93 around here. But that doesn't mean you can't use 89 or even 87 if ya want.

Hopefully that may answer some of your questions. Summary: is the X3 worth it.....oh yes every penny in my opinion.

Thanks Matt that answered alot of what I wanted to know. I dont tow anything, I just want it for pick up. Make it faster then being so sluggish as it is stock.

No problem man, glad to help. Another setting from the tuner is being able to change the tire setting on the computer. From your avatar it looks like you have some bigger tires on the Ranger. So the X3 can fix that if your speedo is off.

But back to pick up, the truck is not gonna have the performance gains as you would adding a programmer to a F-250. Such as my granddads tow rig; we put a predator programmer on it that was a 125/200 upgrade. So it upped the engine a 125HP and 200FtLb of torque, haha it is a beast and gets 25MPG on the highway (road test from K-Town to Lexington, KY). We leave Dodges and Chevies in a cloud of black smoke lol But for the Ranger be looking for a 15-20 torque increase and about a 10-15 HP increase. You can manually change some settings before programming too such as idle speed, rev limiter, and speed limiter. You can also clear any DTCs on the computer, and you can run diagnostics on the truck like are getting full WOT and so on. The X3 has tons of things that help your truck run 10X better compared to stock.

that means that if a dealer goes into your computer for something i.e pull a DTC or for a emissons monitor test they can see that something was altered

On the X3 there is a setting when programming the vehicle to set it back to stock, specifically designed for making sure the dealer can't pick up on any PCM upgrading or changing.

It sounds like PA's inspection is a freaking pain. Here in TN the only requirement is you have to have a hood on you car lol.
