exhaust setup. have a few questions.
well, sadly, im demodding my grand prix.
and on the grand prix right now, are two flowmaster 40's. well, later this week or next week, i will be taking the flows off of the grand prix and returning it to stock. so now, i will have two flowmaster mufflers sitting around. i want to use either 1, or 2 of the mufflers on the ranger. i was just curious of what gives you better sound, louder sound. etc would it sound any different if i dumped it under the truck or if i had piping all the way out. and will it be any louder/different with 2 mufflers? i have many options, as i will be getting it all custom done. just curious what will be best. i also dont want it too loud, my grand prix was basically straight pipes with the flowmasters attached, and it was VERY loud. thanks! sound clips would be appreciated! |
what series are the mufflers for one? and if you want a nice tone dont dump it and run it out the back somewhere with some nice size tips that will get you the tone you are looking for
|
if you read the second line, it says flowmaster 40s lol

dumped is louder in the cab, and not as good sounding from the outsdie.
tailpipes is really quiet in the cab, and great sounding from the outsdie. Just run one muffler.....there's only room for one. |
okay cool
thanks |

i would imagine that two flows would fit
these things are tiny i think both of them together equal the size of the stock muffler lol i think im just going to have it welded in, and keep all the stock piping from front to back. maybe go with a nicer tip at the end, but idk. it already has that chrome tip bolted on from the bright appearance package. and thats enough to keep me happy for now i think. |
You have room for 2 muffs but on our trucks theres no point. You won't change performance or anything running 2.

From what I was told by the exhaust shop on the new rangers eliminating the Y pipe would actually cut the torque down. I had the setup on my 93 and I liked the sound better. I had an argument on another forum concerning exhaust and it all comes down to personal choice. I like to do things for myself and don't care what anyone else thinks.

I presently have a magnaflo with dual 2.00 inch pipes ( not 2.25 or 2.50 as most people have ). It was worth 7lb/ft on the dyno and honestly.. it sounds better. With a ' Flo Master ', your loosing torque to begin with. Having 2 of them wont be any louder then having one as the SOHC engine doesn't move HUGE or LARGE quantities of air compared to the V8's the 40-series was initially used on. |
D.
Does your truck sound pretty good? Any sound clips. |
