Fuel capacity?

Does anyone know what the fuel capacity is for an 04 ranger fx4? I've been to several sites that say it's 19.5 which seems high, and others say 17.

i would bet its the 19.5. thats what mine is (4.0 ext cab 4x4) it will tell you in your manual though if you have one

ya i checked the manual and couldn't find it, i've never got close to 19.5 when fillin up though even when the low fuel light pops on

the most ive ever put in mine was 17 gallons with the low fuel light on. they give you a couple gallons past empty

Yeah I think the reserve tank is 3.5 gallons or somewhere around there.

Can you actually run on that "reserve tank" though? I noticed the same, mine is an '02 Ranger Supercab and it says 19.5 in the manual but the most I have put in is 16.6, so I was really wondering... (since that was with the check gauge light on) I wasnt about to test that theory out unless I had a gas can in back filled up, but even then I thought it was bad to run it til it's out?

Besides that I do get about around 300 miles to the tank and fill up with around 16 gallons, so my average MPG is 18

i have a 98 supercab 4x4 and have never gotten more than 14 gallons in when the fuel light comes on my guage must be way off its a 20 gallon tank. is that common for them to be wrong like that

I've put 18.something in mine so 19.5 sounds about right

I ran mine out on purpose when it was fairly new to find out how much reserve it had. Of course I carried extra fuel with me. It does hold 19.5 gallons but you can get slightly more in it if you push it. I understand overfilling is not recommended because it can damage the evaporative emissions system.

Originally, I had about 3 gallons reserve when the light came on. After I changed the fuel pump with a new sending unit, it now has only about 2 gallons reserve. Those number vary depending on if I am driving around town and how hard I a braking or driving on flat highway.

I believe there are two available fuel tanks. I believe one is a 16 gallon tank and one is a 19 gallon tank.
