Among the "Features" listed for my truck is the 100k mile tuneup interval. Has anybody waited that long? Optimum time frame? 50k for plugs and 75k for plug wires and belts or what?

 

Your owners manual has all of the Maintenance schedules listed in it. I follow that and check it off as I go.

 

That'd be 100k for tune-up. I won't wait that long.

 

yeah i do my plugs every 10,000, wires dont need to be replaced just inspected. just regular stuff do it every other oil change is good. unless you have it done somewhere then thats to much.

 

Every 10k on the plugs...sounds a little on the quick side to me. I think I'll stretch my platinums out to 50k. Thanks...

 

I changed my plugs for the 1st time at 120,000+ lol. Noticed no difference in power or anything like that but my mileage definitely shot up

 

120k on a set of plugs....I'll bet those puppies were gapped a bit on the wide side.

Now that's a little on the long side for me. But looking at how hard it's going to be to get to a couple of 'em, I may want to rethink that!

 

I would do 50k on the plugs, I changed mine at 70k and the gap was huge on them.

 

It's not really hard to change plugs on a 4.0 of any year. If you can't get it from above you can get it from the wheel well. I did all of mine with out any troubles.

 

Oh, I think I'll be able to get to 'em alright....it's just I grew up changing plugs on a Dodge Dart with a slant six. You could step inside the hood and stand on the ground to change out the plugs!

Yeah, the plugs will wear, and you won't really notice any drivability differences because the computer seems to compensate and keep everything running reasonably well, even as the plugs are wearing down.

Recommended interval in the owner's manual for my '03 4,0 liter is 100,000 kilometers (~ 60,000 miles) and that's what I go by - seems to be a reasonable interval with platinum plugs but you can change out earlier if you like - better sooner than later, and better to change them before you encounter problems with them.

Wires you can probably stretch out a little longer before you have to change them, but I just change them out when I change plugs.
