hard to start

hard to start

2001 ranger 4x4 is hard to start had complet tune up but still hard to start if i turn the truck on and wait till the ck fule cap lights gose out to or 3 times it will start up after a few cranks if i try to start the truckwith out tru\ning the truck on afew times it has to be cranked for 30-45 seconds before it cranks any ideals

its in the fuel pump, so im told. i have had the same issue for 2 years and never had an issue. its in the check valve witch keeps pressure to the fuel rail for the injectors. try priming the fuel pump a few times before starting it.( key to run, not start) you can replace the pump but there not cheap and not easy to pull. usually have to drop the tank or pull the bed.

thanks took it to a ford dealer he wants to replace fule filter 1st what do you think

go buy a filter and change it your self. its cheap and easy, and if thats not it you havent dug yourself a hole paying for labour.

not allowed to work on truck where i live the way i understand it i have to remove bed or drop gas tank is that correct

The fuel filter is mounted inboard on the frame rail. You can just crawl under the truck to change it.

thanks was able to change filter before the parking lot ***** caught but dont think id have time to do the pump
