Headers 4.0 SOHC EGR too short!

I've installed pacesetter shorty's on my 02 xlt 4x4 4.0 sohc and the egr fitting placement was different than on the manifolds, so my egr is an inch or two too short! Has anyone else had this problem, if so how did you solve it? My engine oil dipstick tube doesn't fit because of the header flange and I can't find a tube bender for 1/2" tubing anywhere. Has anyone also had that problem and how did you fix it?

Manifolds

I had to cut one of the 4 total flange bolts.

2 of the 3 y-pipe bolts snapped, but I didn't need it anyway.

I had gotten some scratches on this one but covered it up with more high temp rustoleum. I had to put spacers under the coil bracket so everything lined up and I was able to use the stock bolts for it. And Now the dipstick tube needs to be bent towards the bottom to clear the header flange!
I forgot to take a picture after the gasket.
I forgot to take one before the gasket... Again I had to put spacers underneath the bracket and everything fit correctly.
This one was a lot easier to put in but I did get a couple scratches on it, then also covered it with another coat.
It was a huge pain to get them in, but they fit great. I had to put spacers underneath the coil bracket and was able to get those 3 bolts in nicely. They didn't fit up to the stock y-pipe like stated on their website, but I was going to get all new 2" pipes anyway and won't need it. I am also getting them put inwith no cats and 2 8" cherry bomb glasspacks. (There is no smog here.. and I don't care, government is corrupt beyond all comprehension anyway)

In case anyone was wondering they are pacesetter shorty's which I sanded and painted with high heat rustoleum primer and paint. They were $148 on ebay.

Good info, great pictures

If you pull out the dip stick tube, you can fill it with sand and then bend it a bit without collapsing it.
Low tech tube bending, lol.

The EGR tube also has the DPFE sensor hoses on it, so best bet would be to connect tube to the EGR valve first, so those hoses are the same distance from EGR Valve, then measure distance from end of tube to header pipe connection and extend it there, its standard size pipe fittings so should be doable with off the shelf fittings

What would I use to bend the dipstick? I can't find a tube bender for 1/2" anywhere, they only go up to 3/8" and I've had to return two of them already because I was practically forced to get them knowing they won't work. And I'm not sure what you mean for the EGR, I have the header already connected to it but it's just short up top. I just need one 1-1/2" or so piece. I ordered an egr connector male/female from autozone, I hope it will work.

And can anyone tell me if it's a bad idea driving it with open headers once it's all back together? I will have to take it 3 miles to the muffler shop to get my exhaust done, I also need to drive 150 miles round trip to a doctors office.

Not a great idea for the 150 miles, 3 miles would be fine

One of the things an exhaust system does is to stop cold air from getting near hot exhaust valves, they can warp if they get hit with cold air.

Those plugs they put on dragsters with short pipes are not to stop stuff falling in, they put them in to stop cold air from getting in.

It probably won't run very well without O2 feed back, stuck in open loop and it, hopefully, will run Rich, which is much safe than Lean

Now that I've gotten the appointment out of the way the only driving will be to the muffler shop, I am going to try an male/female egr adapter from an ohv6 ranger will fill in the gap and thread, if not I will try the compression fitting method. And I have a 1/2" tubing bender on the way to bend the dipstick tube I had to replace from bending the hard way.
Does anyone have pictures of how they had to bend their dipstick after installing headers? I got it really close to fitting until it broke, I need to be able to bend it with a smaller angle.

She's running!
This is what I had to do to my dipstick tube, and the original bracket is now now where near the hole for it.

Hello, Endzionism.

Can you tell us where you found that or what it is called or provide a link for the piece? I am in your exact situation & am looking for that adapter.

Thank you. :)

Sorry for the late reply, I never check my email. I can't remember where (possibly Ebay) but it was an EGR fitting from an OHV Ranger and it's held up perfectly all of this time. I would assume only Pacesetter creates this problem, if you were to get higher quality headers (as I should have) like JBA then I doubt you would have this problem.
