Are Headers a good idea?
So my 1993 Ranger is in need of an exhaust system. just for the record it's a 1993 4.0 4x4 with a manual transmission.

It just so Happens my brother came across a brand new set of headers on a 1993 ranger in the Junk yard he works at, and I remember a few of my friends saying that headers on a ranger are worthless.

So im looking for input, are headers on my 4.0 going to rob me of power?(low end, or high end?) and have any of you folks done a header set-up with a custom exhaust?

Thank you in advance.

They are not worth the cash INMO. You will lose a bit of torque, but with a programmer you will get it back.

Now you should eval your goals, if this is a daily driver it might not be worth it.

FWIW, the OHV heads have the top exhaust stud exposed to the elements on both sides. Makes them a PITA to remove. I ended up using a stud puller from harbor freight.

Now you can toss everything out the window if you can get them cheap.

I put headers on my 04 and didnt really notice much of a difference other than the exhaust note changed ever so slightly. I do have a tuner. But its more of a cool factor than anything.

I like mine mainly because they are stainless so it looks cleaner in the engine compartment.
