Icon9 Help with Spark Knock Please!!

My truck has a terrible spark knocking problem and its really beginning to **** me off. I called up Doug at bamachips and he said to try a few different things to see if it helps. These things were change the fuel filter..change the 02 sensor I was having problems with and of course check for leaks. I have checked best I can for leaks..even though I really dont know where to look...and I changed both the fuel filter and the passenger side 02 sensor, and I also cleaned my MAF with MAF cleaner. Guess what....the freakin knock is still there!!! Now when I run the truck on stock tune I have no knock..but when it is tuned..87, or 93 performance...it knocks. The reason Doug said this is was because the timing is advanced when tuned. It still shouldnt knock though! I was thinking on trying sea foam through the brake booster line..but Im not too sure on how to do this.

Please give me any help on something I can try...Im lost on what I can do.

Are the user adjustable conrols enabled? If so, you can remove timing where it is pinging. Does your gas have ethanol in it?

Check out: http://rogueperformance.com/pinging.html

Does the engine have a bad knock sensor?
Or is the knock coming from deeper in the engine?
and, of course, cel codes...

Mine was doing the same thing, its a stock tune with CAI, magnaflow exhaust. I replaced my plugs (had 31k on stockers) with high quality plugs and went and got some MAF sensor cleaner at my local auto parts store and wahla the knock was gone. Also a rich air/fuel ratio will INCREASE knock . . . i found that out on my mustang.

OK SORRY i didnt read your full post change your PLUGS

Thats actually the opposite. A leaner A/F ratio is more apt to pre-ignite.

Matt, what your describing is carbon buildup and/or a lack of adequate octane for the timing of the tunes.

To prove this.. run the tank low and then fill up with some 92-93 octane. Then put in your 87 tune and keep bumping the timing up til it knocks.
If it doesn't then put in the 93 tune and back the timing down until it does'nt knock. This will give you a basis as to what things allow for more timing.

IMO you problem is most likely carbon build up. A good sea foam treatment and a good quality fuel injector cleaner will probably fix the situation. (I'd suggest chevron with "techron" cleaner)
