2002 4.0 with about 205k miles. Engine either shuts off when put into drive or drops from idling at about 1000rpms to 200 to 300 rpms then shuts off when I try to give it any gas. Idles ok in park, reverse and neutral. Even will drive fine in reverse. Tried replacing the icv but made no difference. Need help! Have no idea what it could be.

 

check for any vac leaks?

 

Yep. Couldn't find any. Had that problem about a year and half ago.

 

I had this problem a few years ago. I cleaned the idle air control valve and the mass air flow and it stopped.

 

No codes when it ***** off?
