Help!! Gas Mileage....
I'm dying.... I avg 230 miles to the tank. I'm traveling to Birmingham about twice a month to see my girlfriend. It almost takes a tank to drive one way...
I know what some of you are going to say, "get a Honda..." I know some of you can relate to this, I CAN'T bring myself to give up on the Truck.. I can't see myself in a Honda..
Anything would be greatly appreciated.

230 miles to the tank sounds about like mine :-D
Best options to majorly change gas mileage:
lower the truck, put small tires on it, light wheels (to lower the unsprung weight), and change the gear ratio to something along a 3.73 or 3.33 or thereabotus.
In essence, its cheaper to take the money to do that, and buy a $500 early 90's civic. Hated having to say that, but its true.. and I plan on doing the same thing here in the near future so I can spend more time on the truck.. and no have to worry abotu putting it all back together just to get back to work after my days off.

I have a 5 speed and 4:10's, 31 inch tires and drive about 45 miles highway and 20 city. I usually drive with the flow in the city, so I get up and go when the lights turn green, I usually time it so I won't have to stop at any of the lights. I can say I've timed the 45 miles on the hwy and from 65mph to 73mph and there is only like an 8 minute difference, not worth the fuel in my opinion.

I just did a tune up on mine and changed out my thermostat that was stuck open. i went from getting 300 miles to a tank to getting 360-375 a tank. that is with my new tires(31X11.50) on too. i measured the tires and they are actually 32 1/2". Anyway, that translates to 22 mpg. i know we have different year models, but i still have the 4.0, 4x4 and mine sits a bit taller than stock as well.

dont work i'm lucky if i can get 200miles to the tank id rather have a full size that gets the same as my truck.
once i start working more its eather trade the truck in for the tacoma or buy a 2nd car and keep the truck for the weekends
its sad to say that i love it but something has to happen.

You guys have actually inspired me to keep my truck below 2500RPM and i have noticed a great change...
I was getting 230 - 240 per tank and right now im at above a quarter and have already gone 220 miles on the tank and most of it is city driving and my truck is fairly stock except plugs filter and exhaust.
i firmly believe that just slow down and stay off the gas and run around 1750 - 2200 RPM
and i ride BFG A/T 31 x 10.50
