Hesitation at 2500.
 

Never fails....at 2500 on the tach, the truck will hesitate, even buck almost. I tested it to see if it is speed-related, it isn't. The bucking and hesitaton goes away after 2500 and rarely shows itself before hand, unless I'm accelerating rapidly.....I had a problem with my inertia switch a while back, but that hasn't shown it's ugly little head in a while. Reset it to be sure, anyway, but the problem still exists. Any ideas?

Does it do it without a load on the engine? Raise the RPMs out of gear, and see if it does it.

It idles roughly, to the point where it sounds and feels like it might stall, then catches itself. It will drop a full 500 rpm, then go back to normal idle. It continues to do that until I take off. Then it just feels sluggish suddenly, like someone keeps turning on and off the AC. The worst is at 2500. I stopped by the dealership. Of course, the servie tech played stupid and insisted that I pay them to diagnose it ASAP, rather than maybe helping me out by giving me any tidbits or suggestions. I hate dealerships. Soooo...anyone got any ideas? I'm going to try some fuel system cleaner, it's got a little over 40K miles on it.....might need a bit o' kick to dislodge some gunk?

The idle problem sounds like your IAC valve. Did you try raising the speed up to 2500 without a load?

Go to Autozone or somewhere and have the codes pulled . Not all codes will immediately throw a CEL.

Yeah, I revved her up to 2500 last night, I didn't notice any hesitation, but I didn't hold it there. It was around 11 at night, my neighbors are jerks as it is, no need to make them more apt to start stuff with my family. I'll go rev the engine in a bit, after I let her cool and check the oil....just got home. I did lose the oil filler cap for a while after changing the oil. I replaced the oil cap and the oil that jumped out the filler neck, though. Might I have sucked something in, maybe?

Sooo.....my air box, filter, and air tube....sensor, included.....are COVERED/FILLED with oil. I THINK I found the cause of the problem. Any ideas as to WHY there's oil where it shouldn't be?

Replaced oil filter, cleaned MAF, checked PCV and breather....can't figure out oil. I guess I'll just keep my eye on it.

Oil should not jump out the filler neck.
It's an '06 ? Off warranty already ?

No K&N. Unfortunately... No light on. Maybe my PCV is wasted.....I looked at it. It won't come out of the valve cover, so I can't "test" it and I kept burning myself on hot stuff...soooo, eff that for now. The breather tube has oil in it, but that's typical.... As to the point about oil not jumping out the filler neck. Tell that to my hood and all the componets behind it! They're NEVER going to rust! The truck runs fine, now that I've replaced the oil-soaked filter. I'll keep my eye on the thing to make sure there's no more oil leaking into the airbox.

I guess you misspoke.

I looked at it, there wasn't any oil pouring out of it or the breather tube. and it's not loose in it's socket. I flicked it, and it didn't rattle like the bad ones do. I checked it the best I could. But thanks for being so objective and pointing out my phrasing, rather than helping me with my actual problem! From now on, I'll be sure to not mince words. Care to check my spelling while you're at it?

Get the codes pulled.

If you don't find any... I've seen crank position sensors cause this type of problem. The motor will stumble and even die and never set a code!


Otherwise.. sounds ignition related to me.

i just had the same problem replace the spark plugs put in good ones and the wires and i bet you it will go away

My first thoughts on this problem were that it might be ignition related, or maybe fuel. But with the appearance of the oil in the airbox, I'm leaning more towards the PCV. The only way oil CAN get to the airbox is through the PCV and the breather tube. Once I figure out how to remove the PCV, I'll simply replace that. The truck runs fine now. The stuttering HAD to be due to the air filter being full of oil and not allowing air flow. I might pull a plug to see if it's fouled by any oil getting by the air filter, into the intake..... I'll see if I can get someone to pull codes for me, too. Just in case!

Not sure about yours. But my 06 PCV is on the rear drivers side valve cover. It points straight rearward and is cam locked into the cover. You basicly has to turn it 90deg and then pull it straight out.

Also, mine has a heater coolant pipe wrapped around it. That makes it even tougher to get at.

yea, my engine is doing the same thing. I just put it in about 2100 miles ago. But I do not have oil in my air box or anything. It idles the same but it lasts till I shift to second. Then it is fine.

I THINK what I'm looking at is my PCV....might be wrong, now that you're telling me it on the back of the ds valve cover. I had a buddy hack into mitchell for me and search it. It said my pcv is on the ps valve cover, on the front. Heh.....The thing I'm looking at has the same kind of connector tube as a pcv....I guess I'll do some more research into the location!
