Oil level
I just changed my oil today and noticed something, the manual says 5.0 quarts. I don't think I've EVER put that much in there. I put about 4.5 quarts in today (including the filter), more than I usually put, and my dipstick level is about 3mm OVER the full line.
In the past I've done 4 quarts even, and on my truk that brings the dipstick level to just below the full line.
Do you guys go by the dipstick indicator, or the owners manual? Ive always gone by the dipstick and never had problems. This is the first time I've ever "overfilled", according to the stick, but according to the manual, I could put in another half quart of oil. And that just doesn't sit right with me.

Every vehicle I've ever had, I've always gone by the manufacturers spec's relative to how much oil to put into the crankcase on a stock engine.
I don't pay a lot of attention to any specific dipstick markings, except to use them as a reference mark after I've put in the proper amount of oil per manufacturers spec's after an oil change. I've even taken dipsticks in the past and filed a very slight "notch" in them to indicate the "full" mark on them.
