cat converters

Ive read a lot of posts about adding power by removing the cat converters. Is this true and if so how would i do it? are there kits or what? Help please!!!

no, unless your truck is from the 70's removing the cats will do nothing.

all newer vehicle's come with high flow cats from the factory.

if anything you will lose back pressure and make your truck slower.

i dont think it would make your truck "slower" i think you would get a better sound and probably more low end power. could be wrong but letting more air in and letting more air out frees up more power, within reason.

Oh and if you're looking for more power, try getting a programmer or something. Im sure somebody here can give more info than me.

I did a back pressure test on my 95's 4.0L upstream and downstream of the twin factory cats with 102K miles on them (with an aftermarket cat back exhaust) . At 4500 rpm the needle didn't move on the gauge. So 0 back pressure with my factory cats.

Unless your engine has forced induction or it's built for drag racing, removing the cats won't gain you anything except a deeper sounding exhaust. -Mike-
