Idles fine , but cuts out while engine is reved
I have the 2001 ford ranger edge 4.0 L v6
When you first start engine , it cranks right up , idles fine , but when you rev the engine , at about 2000rpm the engine starts cutting out , like it is starving for air or gas , it just starts sputtering , you let off pedal and it goes back to a calm idle .. Please Help , where do I start , I am disabled and on a fixed income , Thanks |
$10 fuel filter would be where I would start, at 13 years old it would be just good maintenance even if it is not the problem
I assume when you drive it, it also starts lacking power when you get to 2,000 rpm? Fuel pressure gauge would be helpful, there is a fitting on the engines fuel rail that looks like a tires air valve(schrader valve), gauge screws onto that. Your '01 should have 65psi while idling, when at 2,000 rpm it shouldn't drop lower than 55psi. Also a simple thing but have seen it happen, loosen the gas cap, so air can get in. A misfunctioning gas cap or EVAP system can cause an air lock in the gas tank so pump can not maintain good flow out of the tank. |
