2000 4.0 4x4

in last month bought a 2000 xlt 4x4 manual... thus far not impressed don't know if dealer's fault and/ or expecting too much... rad was only half full, tailgate wouldn't open, rear door scratched up ( fixed some of it but not all)driver's window was falling out, battery terminal were loose, bucks on the highway under load ( no trailer, usually above 65 mph and/ or going up a hill) fuel filter was plugged solid...plus today when i dropped the truck off to have these issues addressed the check engine light came on! dealer i think trying to get out of fixing this truck trying to say well 8 yrs old, over 65000 miles...i say bs i paid good money for this truck ( they based price on truck being in excellent condition, if that case shouldn't any issues at all in this time frame) any comments and/ or suggestions would be appreciated...

Sounds like alot of it was dealers fault.

Did you not even look at the truck when you bought it? Seems like most of this I would have caught before I even bought it.

yes i looked at it...door was scratched they agreed to fix as well as everyone else that was wrong with it... however after picking up truck found all that wrong with it...thinking about bringing to different dealer to have inspected.. also gets horrible mileage worse on highway and unimpressed with power ( can't believe dealers were trying to sell me the 3.0 or a 4 cylinder)

Ah that stinks man.

Last fall I bought mine. I looked and looked at used ones and just came to the conclusion that all the good clean used one were NOT taken care of to the degree I was wanting. So I bought a new one. I know that in depreciation I'm taking a big hit.. but the truck is cleaner than most any around me and I know it's not been neglected.

Only thing I could suggest is to just list each issue and address them RIGHT NOW. Otherwise it'll work on ya and you'll only get more and more frustrated as time goes on. Just fix everything and get on with it.

first ranger i look at was def off roading mirrors were gouched? and the lower grille was broken, seen truck when it first came in also a magnetic business sign on the door and the spare was in the truck behind the seat, interior was a mess and dealer wanted top dollar for it, the truck i found was in the best condition i could find other than one of the foglights being water damaged ( seems to be a common problem) def over paid went to another dealer told most truck is worth is $8000 which is the biggest reason i am upset over this, for the money spent should be trouble free and it isn't...

that would be a sweet ride too. i think you bought one that was abused by the previous owner and the dealer is trying to hide it and rip you off. sorry about that. i hope it works out for you.

thats what i have been thinking... truck too old to just be getting off lease so don't think it was leased but don't think it was taken care of either maybe because alot of people just view vechicles as disposable means of transportation? will update after i get the truck back from the dealer

Sounds just like my experience. My truck was a certified preowned. Got there to test drive it and it looked like crap. The tail gate holder was broken, no spare tire, interior was filthy. Went out for a test drive and the ball joints were bad,the engine spark knocked and the tach worked irregularly. Salesman couldnt explain why it was in such bad shape and had a certified preowned sticker (it was supposed to have had like a 131 point inspection). Anyway, they fixed most of the stuff after about 4 visits. I told my wife, next time I go to buy a used car, they are going to have everything on it fixed before i sign the papers. Once you do that, youre at their mercy.

i know on the phone them seem hesitant to pay for any more repairs on this truck...told age of truck, mileage, etc... bs to me still haven't made even first payment on this truck and all this? plus it seems i overpaid $2000 on this truck so its not like they are losing any money on their end... replaced the tires/ ball joints prior to delivery... i think next time getting a new/ newer truck sick of buying other people's headaches... my last car a honda del sol was probably the worst car i ever owned the crx i had before it though cancer ridden was a better car

the day i bought it in the check engine light came on... turns out code for 4 cylinder misfire...however they said they can't find anything wrong with my truck but still managed to burn 1/2 a tank of gas for me....so fixing it myself getting a can or 2 of sea foam tomorrow then ordering a screamin demon coil/ wires and bosch +2 spark plugs.. in the week hey had my truck all they did was wax my door definitely not doing repeat business there, didn't really want to go to this dealership to begin with but the dealer i usually deal with wasn't having the bad luck locating me a decent ranger and being a taurus i am very impatient! lol

Rich and I did the same thing, the used ones I looked at here in Michigan didn't impress me. So even tho money was tight at the time, i bought a new one and have 71,000 miles on mine with no problems at all... I would fight that dealer as much as you can to get it fixed.

Rangers are very good trucks, and this is coming from a big Chevy fan. Its like anything tho, if you don't take care of it, it will be a POS...

Good luck...

Chris

i agree heard from more than one dealer about them being great truck ( one rarely sees any come in for any warranty claims) i guess in my situation if i want it fixed right gotta do it myself ( definitely not going back to this dealer for any future purchases though)
