knocking in steering 05 ranger

i have noticed a knocking in the steering on my stock 05 ranger. it usually happens when i turn left, but i can also feel it when driving straight. almost feels like something is loose and rattling around. it also only does it in very hot temps during the day. i have no problems with it once it cools down. the truck still drives straight and turns good both ways. i just wanted to get some opinions before i take it to a mechanic...

sounds like one of your CV shafts is going bad

either that or a ball joint. check to see if you have any ripped boots.

sounds like the rack and pinon. prob when the fluid gets hot allows it to move since the fluid is thinner and when its cold the fluid thickens up. and also could be a lose front end part like inner and outer tierods
