Loss of Power
Loss of Power
I have a 05 Ranger.. with 54K on it.
I may be going completely nuts or maybe I am not... but from the day I got the truck to now.. it just seems like the power, pickup, and overall thrill of the truck is dieing.
Is there anything that I should check, change...? The truck just basically has had air filter changes with cheap stp filters, oil changes with 10w30 motorcraft synthetic blend and motorcraft oil filters... other than that.. nothing besides a fan clutch that just never seems to engage correctly ( I think I ruined the new one since my fan has road tar on it... thanks construction zone.. grr).
Could I need to change spark plugs or wires... or sensors... it just seems sluggish.. like its slowly dieing. I mean when I first had the truck it had enough power to just want to spin the rear tires... now it wouldn't even dream of that.
I'll be honest I drive the truck harder than I should I bet... Any suggestions?

I use valvoline 5W30 fully synthetic with a motorcraft filter. All together it costs about $24 buying it from walmart.
yeah it doesnt really matter, i like mobil one but find an oil you like and stick with it, i would recomend synthetic though. i prefer wick filters
1) Change the fuel filter.
2) Disconnect the battery and clean the MAF sensor with the special spray cleaner.
3) Clean the throttle body plate with a toothbrush and some water in a spray bottle. (don't use carb cleaner)
4) Jack up the entire truck and check for a dragging brake.
5) Lower truck, reconnect the battery and put it through the quick idle learn process. Go for a drive and see what you think.
Now if those don't get you back to where you think it ought to be... then try the sea foam, plugs & wires.
Beyond that.. get it into a shop that can diagnos fuel pressure, exhaust backpressure, spark, or possibly a slipping tranny.
