PCM tuning

PCM tuning

Hey guys I had a question. I was pondering, instead of spending $400 on a tuner, just having my truck's pcm sent away to be tuned by a pro. I did it with my camaro's pcm and everything worked out fine. Does anyone know a company out there who tunes our 4.0's pcm's?

i was always told that the car/truck has to be with the pcm to tune it. did you try steeda, since they do all that ford racing stuff, or even try the dealer, maybe the know someone that could help you out. and i think its better to buy the tuner, that way you could always change the tune, where as if you have it sent out, your stuck with whatever tune you get from them.

my xcal holds like 5 tunes. one for stock ecu, the other for the turbo program, and then i can alter the turbo program by advancing the timing, or lean it out or make it rich, whatever.

Find yourself a good well known tuner and they can tune a flash tuner (IE X2 or X3) just as well as tuning the PC becuase it does the same thing, with the benefits of beeing able to change to other tunes or back to stock, as well as beeing able to check DTC's. In my opinion you are better off spending the $450 on an X3 with custom tunes

okay, is the xcal worth it?

a guy on here has an xcal 1 bama tuner for sale for, used it on his '03 4.0 xlt. Which, hey my truck is an 03 4.0 FX4, so would that work? and if I needed to get new tunes I could probably just buy new ones from bama right?

i havent used my xcal yet cuz im still build my turbo engine, but over on the turbo site, ive heard nothing but good things about the xcal 2. not too many people have the xcal 3 since i think it just cam out around christmas. but from what i understand theres only a few thing that are better, like i think it'll hold 2 more tunes, and one other thing that slips my mind.

DONT buy a used one unless you know for a fact that its unlocked. once its hooked up to a truck and the stock program is downloaded, it locks itself to the vehicles vin. if its locked, then you gotta send it to sct for them to unlock it, and i believe its like another 150 for them to do it. somtimes you can find an unlocked xcal on ebay, thats where i got mine. your gonna wanna try to get a xcal 9400, thats the version that comes completely empty. the 9415, comes programmed with like 1 tune for your vehicle, if they have a program for it.

as for this bama tuner, i have no idea what that is.
