Think about it....If you have a small 5" cone you yell into vs. a 15" cone to yell into, how are you going to make your voice the loudest? The bigger the tips are, the more it "echo effect" you are going to have to make it louder.

Before i got my exhaust/tips installed (i have 22 x 3.5" ss tips btw) i put one of the tips over my stock tailpipe and started my truck. Just the tip itself put up to the stock system, i could hear my exhaust ALOT more with that tip sitting on the tailpipe. Tips make a good amount of difference if you want a little extra sound.

I just installed the Hillbank Thunderbolt exhaust on my truck the other day. I sounds just the way I wanted it to. Almost stock sound at idle, with I nice perrr at crusing and alittle rumble with heavy pedal. Even my wife liked it!

Just for fun I fired it up after I removed the stock exhaust, just the cats remaining. Sounded alot like a car off the Fast and Furrios, loud and stupid.

Don't make your truck super loud, a V-6 will never be or sound like a V-8.

I like the sound of my Thunderbolt exhaust and can't wait to hear it in a few months after it breaks in alittle.

Or you could choose not use a muffler, mine sounds pretty good, it's not too loud at cruisin speeds, but you get on it and it will turn some heads, plus it only cost me 20$ to do it

we started a 99 4.0 after removing the stock catback. I was surprised how quiet it was. I guess the cats do some muffling on their own. We never revved it to a high rpm. I Have an s-10 with no cats and two mufflers (dual straight out the headers) and it is louder.
