Icon8 Flooding when starting

Every now and then I go out to crank the truck and when I do it floods. Tonight I go out to my truck try to crank it and it busts off but no go. I waited a few seconds then tried again, this time it cranks but runs like crap...fills the cab with a burnt gas smell then dies. I waited 5 min cranked it back up and its doin fine now. It floods sometimes when it fails to start but it has never flooded this bad to where it can't idle. Any of yall with 4.0s have this problem? BTW,my truck only has 53k miles on it,only engine mod is air raid filter.

Assuming your not hitting the gas pedal during crank.. about the only way for it to truely flood is a leaking injector.

A tip: I'm not sure if this will work on your ranger.. but sometimes the PCM will shut off fuel if you floor the throttle when cranking.
