Misfiring
About a month ago my check engine light came on when I was driving and nothing happened.
Well then when I was stopped at a stop sign my truck started shaking back and forth and it was misfiring. Then sometimes the battery light came on and my truck died. When I popped my hood and turned on my truck I could hear a vacuum sucking noise. When I looked, there were two perfect holes in one of the hoses. I went in today to get it serviced and the mechanic knew right away what was wrong with it when I started to explain to him what was wrong. So it's over there right now getting it's hose replaced. The mechanic also said that most fords have that happen at least once in their lifetime. He said something goes wrong and it makes two perfect size holes that looked like someone stuck a screwdriver twice in the hose. Has this ever happened to anyone elses ford before? |

The wifes 03 expo 4.6 did the same thing. Shook and very rough idle, would die but restart. Away from idle it was fine. Reading forums found the problem is common to a vacuum hose from valve cover to back of manifold.
The daughters 94 mustang had the same thing. CEL lean bank 1 and 2 went right to looking for a vacuum leak. Same area, vacuum hose that connects to back of manifold. The sons 96 ranger is fine so far. But if rough idle comes up, a vacuum leak is the first thing i look for. This is somewhat common. |
fords are notorious for vacuum leaks mine had one but it was the upper intake manifold gaskets
