Chip it instead of regear. Unless your heart is really set on the gears.

Make sure you do the cam first then the chip you dont want to pay for new programs after the cam swap.

get a chip. Be careful about which cam you choose too. Alot of guys that install these bigger cams on street engines forget one major component and factor. Alot of times depending on the engine and trans you'll sometimes need additional parts such as a vacum booster to keep from losing your brakes and if using an auto tranny sometimes you'll need to change to a 3500 stall converter as well. Pretty much a good cam choice but you will need a chip.

For the came you have one choice its the comp cams 410, if you go with the 422 it needs new springs. Which means you need the head machined to except the double spring setup.

As far as chipping the 94 im not sure whos good in that game.

I would wait till you get 35's to regear. IMHO you would need a 4.30 - 4.56 gear to run 35's, now it would be a waste of your gas.

Correct me if I'm wrong but dont you also need new lifters when you intall a new cam?
And if you go with more than .500 lift you need new springs. You might as well do the timing cain and water pump also.
I wished I cammed my motor when I replaced the head gaskets.

That is the lifter and you need twelve of them. At almost $40 a peice I was considering using the current stock ones but if you have 254K miles on your engine it might require new ones.

The lifters are hydraulic rollers. As long as the roller is in good shape and they are not clogged you can reuse them.

The 410 cam can be used on stock heads. You must use new pushrods due to a smaller diameter,IIRC.

Now since this truck has so many miles i think your asking for trouble with a chip and cam swap. My vote is save for a rebuild or engine swap. Include your cam into that plan.

Do a compression check and see how healthy your engine really is.

if ya upgrade cams, i would spend the extra money and get them rebuilt and use new components. you already have it disassembled might as well rebuild em and clean em up..

thats true its an idea i have been throwing around but my best friends pap always told me if it runs good with this many miles dont touch it till it you need to it could go to another 100k and maybe 50k on a rebuild you never know so once it takes a **** it will get either a 5.0 or a stroked 4.5 i want to do the cam but it is alot to tear down and its going to snow soon so i need my truck for the winter and its already guna be appart for a couple weeks to do the manual tcase swap and im only home on the weekends so
