Ok so my 04 4.0 is getting 14 mpg about 250 miles on a tank... it has 101,500 miles with original plugs. I have a feeling that once i change them ill see an improvement. Was also thinkin about synthetic in the transfer case and rear diff. any other ideas?? electric fan or anything else?

At 105K, I changed plugs, wires, cleaned IAC, replaced PCV, tranny fluid, fuel filter, and engine oil. And I am still getting the same MPGs.
I am going to replace the front pinion seal this weekend, then change the both front and rear diffs with synthetic oil. I am not crossing my fingers that this will help the MPGs.

I get about 15mpg at the worst conditions, pulling a trailer in winter. Summer I never drop below 18.5mpg...never. That's with 31" BFG AT's aired to 45psi and 4.10 gears. I removed the spare tire to save weight. If I take a long trip I take out my toolbox and remove tailgate, yet still haven't gotten over 21 with it. I'm considering a cheesy homemade box cover as my old truck got 22mpg with a tounue. Maybe some plywood covered with vinal or black outdoor carpet for long trips only

Step two. Remove inner fender plastic and they are right there in front of you.
