Engine TRoulbe PLEASE HELP!!!

My dad has a 2001 Explorer Sport and when he turns the A/C on or the Defroster on the engine dies..... now to me that immediatly tells me that its the compressor that has seized up.... any ideas, i havent even taken a look under the hood yet, just got down here and started talking to him and he asked me so i figured i would throw it up on the board.... i already searched to see if someone had already talked about ita nd couldnt find anything... jsut let me know what your idears are....

My cadillac's Compressor is seized and if I turn it on the belt imediatly starts squealing like a pig. If I turn the wheel to the lock it will die. try unplugging the compressor and turning on the air, if it doesn't die you found your problem.

Could be the IAC not working correctly. The IAC has to allow more air in to compensate for the load of the compressor. If it sounds like its under a severe load when you turn the compressor on, it is probably the compressor. Try raising the rpms to about 1500, then turn the compressor on. If it still dies, I would say its prolly the compressor. If it doesnt die, try to clean the IAC first, if that helps, replace the IAC.
