As a warning to those who will post and saying one way or the other if they are good or bad without actually having a pulley done on you 4.0SOHC please do not reply.

For those of you who are running them I have a few questions (This means you Rich):

1-Do you feel that it is worth the cost?

2-What kind of power gains? (I have seen Riches sheet)

3-Any difference in fuel economy?

4-Is it worth the money to get the complete pulley kit? Or just the Underdrive Crank pulley?

1 Yes. Both in "feel" and in power you put down. It's the second best mod I've done on my ranger.

2 Most impressive is tip in power at lower rpms.

3 A little but not too much.

4 I'm not sure. Do the other pullies speed up the accessories or do they further slow them?
I'd not slow them anymore. And if I lived in the south I'd want to speed the water pump up a bit.

tip 1: I've sped up my Park and Neutral idle speed to 800 rpms to help ac, cooling, and voltage performance. Last week I cruised woodward for 10hrs in mid 80s temps. I had the Drive idle set at 700 and the Neutral idle set at 900. Had absolutely ZERO problems. Hottest it got was 220F (e-fan set to come on at 215)

tip 2: Get a "84.5 belt" (not a 84.0 and not a 85.0 Trust me. I've got all three. The 84.5 is what you want)

wondering the exact same thing.. not getting a programmer ( had a bad experience with one) so thinking this is my best bet to get a little more oomph... i believe the water pump pulley is also sped down? sent an enquiry to underdog performance ( they have kit that includes all 3 plus belt) but wondering if alternator pulley neccesary and get the tensior pulley instead...seems all fords have a problem with noisy pullies! lol though i think my p/s pulley maybe the noisiest

 

This is on my list, along with a Tuner from doug.

Curious to hear from other members.

 

^^ i have heard they kinda delete the harmonic balancer in some applications.

 

3.0 pulley BOLTS to the balancer.
4.0 pulley IS PART of the blancer. This the higher cost.

The 4.0L crank pulley **is a damper**

btw, it's simply a ASP 4.0L unit.


As far as a bad tuner experience... I've said it before and I'll say it again. A tune is only as good as the guy writing & researching it.

Doug had my engine tuned fine. But the tranny functions.. well those he completely ignored even though I specifically asked for changes.
I got fed up with all these so called "tuners" and just bought the software to do it myself. Glad I did too.

my tuner ( jet- handheld model) completely erased my computer when i tried to put it back to stock...big $$$ to get my truck mobile again, thus my reason for no longer wanting a tuner

 

Thats why you double check to make sure they save stock settings. Alot of people have the x-cal and seem to like it so dont judge a programmer just from one brand

 

My Flahspaq has worked perfectly. Not one single complaint!
Cold air is the next engine upgrade. After that i think it's going to be these ud pulleys.

 

jet programmer instructions said saves stock settings... jet paid for most of the repair bill so i guess can't cry too much

 

The stock intake is a cold air intake. Don't waste your money.

 

hey Rich i noticed u said u turned up ur idle... how exactly do u do that? my truck seems to idle a smidge low and i wanna turn it up about 50-100 rpm

 

I have been hearing this allot! Ive heard they do and that they don't. Not sure what to believe. I know it will draw the same temp. air from the same location but seems like the k&n cone filter will increase the volume of air. Anybody who has one that can verify no gains?

 

D. made a post awhile back about a comparison he did with a stock one and a K&N and he said the difference was so little its not worth the money.

 

K&N.com claims a gain of 3.25hp. 3 horsepower on a 200 hp motor is a waste of money. 'nuff said?

Anyways back to pulley, What kind of power gains can u get out of these pulleys? will the light weight pulleys make much difference or just stick with the underdrive crank and overdrive alternator?
