Problem is, it seems to have a miss. If you listen closely you can hear it.

Click pic above for video.

Do you think a fluid flush would quiet that down?

Ha, nobody biting huh? Yep, bought her with the expectation of replacing the engine after the previous owner described the noises it made before it quit.

Threw a new battery in her and was surprised she started. Looks like I'm still gonna need that new engine though.

Getting a used engine for this. I know it's dangerous to ask "as-long-as-I'm-in-there" questions on a forum because, if you listen to all the advice, before you know it you've rebuilt the whole engine.

So here goes: Plan on getting/installing timing set and gaskets/seals(Head, Intake, Rear Main),

Check for "play" in any of the major components, wear on cam, obstructions in any of the oil passages.

I see the good timing sets (Cloyes 9-0398SC) are about $300, are the cheaper ones comparable in quality?

Anything else on these engines that I should replace or inspect "as-long-as-I'm-in-there"

So I picked up a used engine from a somewhat reputable salvage yard. They told me it ran good before they pulled it.

Pulled the valve cover to check things before installing. Found a pretty sloppy chain.

Will a new tensioner take out that slack or is this going to be more involved?
