noise at 2500rpm
When accelerating as soon as i hit 2500 rpm all the way to just under 3500 rpm i'm gettign a faint rattling (or air sucking nose if that makes sence), almost like its coming from inside the dash. Ive heard talk of timing chain problems and im a little concerned that this is what im hearing, my 04 4.0 has just over 100k on it. Anybody out there with any advise on what this could be, or some suggestions on what i can check to pinpoint what this noise can be, its not very loud, but i know its there and listen for it and its starting to pi$$ me off!! p.s. my superchips flashpaq is not picking up any codes!
thanks!!
thanks!!
i would bet its the timing chain rattle youre hearing. mine has done it since ive owned it with 10,000 miles on it. i recently switched to 0w-30 weight oil and it settled down my rattle significantly

Thats what i heard as well! which is why i am questioning if this is what i am hearing! but it does have so many of the characteristics of this problem! anybody else with a later model SOHC having this problem?
Fixed in 03 my @$$. I pretty much use the rattle as a shift point in my truck. My truck has been doing it since like 50K miles and it still does it today with 122K miles on it. I figure if I have to take the engine out to fix it I might as well put in a reman engine.
It has happened in 04+ truck with miles on them. Parts do wear out. They changed the design of the tensioner and the guides I believe.....they last longer than the early 4.0L SOHC's did.
My trucks done it since 40k. I'm now at 103k and it's gets worse in the cold weather...but gets very quiet in the summer time. I'm looking at letting it just blow and take the engine out with it. I want a 20k 2004+ long block.
Codes wont show for mechanical failure.
