P0174 code and vacuum hose help
I have a 4.0L 2002 Ranger, I have been having a problem with my Ranger off and on for a while where it will start with full power to every thing but it wont turn over until I kick the gas tank then I can start it, I took it into Auto Zone because I had the check engine light, and I got P0174 and only says I need to reinstall my vacuum hose at the in take manifold or fuel presser regulator. I am not to sure what it means by saying Fuel system too lean (cylinder Bank 2).
Also I'm not too sure if it has something to do with my fuel pressure regulator or if there is just an issue with the Vacuum Hose.
If anyone has had a similar problem let me know how you fixed it because I honestly don't know what to do.

Welcome to the forum
You need to change your fuel pump assembly in the gas tank, it will not start at some point when you kick it, and you will be stranded, so the sooner the better
Fuel Pressure regulator is part of the fuel pump assembly, so "two birds with one stone"
You pull back or tilt up the bed to change the fuel pump assembly on Rangers
P0174 means computer is adding 15% more fuel to Drivers side of engine(bank 2) than it calculated, it does not mean engine is running Lean
Pull out a spark plug on drivers side and have a look at the tip, if its darker color then its a False Lean, so NOT an air leak
Its possible you have an "air leak", a vacuum leak, in one of the many vacuum hoses on the engine
Also possible the drivers side O2 sensor is starting to fail
O2 sensors are the ONLY sensors that wear out, they use a chemical to detect oxygen and they just run out of that chemical
They need to be changed every 100k miles or 12 years, which ever comes first

OBD2 TroubleCode p0174 can be indicating
a VacLeak in the PCV "Long L Hose" assembly
from the PCV Valve at left ValveCover rear
to the right side of the IntakeManifold throat.
Those thin 5/8" rubber elbows tend to crack+leak with age;
I'd replace 'em with 5/8" heater hose elbows that are a little thicker\tougher.
