homemade vs built exhausts

any power difference between the 2? i have a 2000 ranger with a 4.0 ohv with a side exhaust exiting in front of the rear passenger tire with a glasspack..find too loud for me and i think i lost some power in the process.. thinking of either keeping my side exhaust and just changing the muffler or just buying a exhaust system built for the truck..both options i prefer to go magnaflow

I have a 100% stainless steel SI/DO Magnaflow muffler for sale. Check the classifieds.

There's not really a difference between the two as far as performance. You won't see much, if any, gain from just exhuast. The main difference is cost. It is usually much cheaper to go custom vs. kit.

dont buy an entire exhaust system. those are ridiculously overpriced. you should be fine just installing a new muffler. what i did is had 2.5" piping from the cats back then to a straight thru magnaflow muff then dumped after that. cost me 200 bucks with labor, muffler and all.

I love the magnaflow kit, its kind of pricey though. The only reason I bought it is cause I found it on craigslist for like 300 bucks.

thought the lack of the pipe going over the rear wheel was costing me performance? one reason thought of going to 2 1/4" outlet instead of 2 1/2"...if no difference definitely just getting a new magnaflow muffler to replace the glasspack i currently have, hoping alot quieter, becoming a old fart i guess... ( like to see a performance increase if possible but w/o the noise)

only benifit to the premade is its premade. you can do it at home but with clamps they ocasionally come loose. jegs sells a dynomax kit for abot 170 bucks and its pre bent and all of it. but custom is the way to go

going custom ( no one makes an exhaust for the ranger i really like anyways) just need to decide which magnaflow muffler 4"x9" or 5"x8" ...am assuming 5"x8" better choice, the size muffler their ranger kits come with

I have a 3.0, and i went to an exhaust shop and told them to cut my muffler off and weld in a 2.5 foot side dump pipe. 60 bucks.
