remove weight (spare tire, carpet, seats, center console, jack, tools) easy, and free. Not more power, but better use of what youve got.

Headers, again with the efficiency and TQ will jump a few digits

If got the $$$ port and polish anywhere air travels in and out of the motor, from TB to ends of headers.

Sounds stupid, but clean every sensor that air touches on the way in along with TB. Reset computer and you may just feel more power but again the engines just running better.

Tuner is by far the best for the money. A SCT X3 is a great tuner and can have custom tunes put on it. This can be very beneficial as the guy who is tuning can set up custom tunes for any bolt ons or port polishing as CB suggested.

Port polishing? Really?? How about first seeing the kind of WHORE it is the remove a 4.0 SOHC head before suggesting it. lol. Plus, that kind of mod, the results are negligible, minute especially when given the work involved and this application.

thanks for all the recomendations and this may be a dumb question but whats the difference between a chip and a tuner ? if any difference at all and who would i take it to to get it tuned ?

Chips are dinosaur technology. DO NOT buy a "JET" chip. They do little to nothing for our trucks. A tuner offers several "tunes". For example, my tuner has an 87 performance tune, a 92 torque tune, and a 92 performance tune. 87 and 92 referring to fuel octane. Plus with a tuner, you can customize certain parameters.

Gas engines there isn't huge differences/gains. It's when you get into forced induction and diesels is when the tunability on-the-fly as the end user is where the big power can be had! Talking 150hp and 400ft/lb's!



I suggest going with Rogue Performance whom I linked in my earlier post. Their SCT Xcalibrater3 w/ 3 custom tunes runs about $380. While the price may hurt, the gains are worth it. Extra power and better economy when you're easy on the skinny pedal. I love my Rogue tuned Xcal. With just 87perf on the PCM and not enough enough run time for the computer to re-learn, I experienced the worst wheel hop I've ever experienced......IN SECOND GEAR!! Needless to say, I'm very satisfied with the gains in power it gave me. Unfortunately, I've not ran it long enough to see the mileage gains 'cause I've been hard on the skinny pedal since the install a few months back! lol. (I rarely drive the truck....like 10mi every week if that. lol)

How do you reset your computer?

ok ive been driving a 71 beetle and before that i had a 63 chevy and im not familiar with these newfangled vehickles with their tunes and computer gizmo's.. i just got a 97 ranger xlt super cab 2wd w/ 4.0 ohv and am looking for some reliable performance upgrades.. ive heard of chips before but not tunes.. in general what should i be looking for and what should i avoid?
