Pinging 4.0

I have a 1999 Mazda B4000 with a 4.0. Had the head gaskets replace and now it pings like the devil. Temp normal replaced plugs and wires no change. MAF was at boarder line so replace it no change. Put 93 octane in it 60 % inprovement but still some ping. I should not need 93. No EGR or Knock sensor on this motor. Sounds like a timing problem but what controls it and how can I fix it.

Hasn't anyone else had this problem??

What controls the timing???

welcome to RF go get you some seafoam that comes in a can at your local auto parts store and read the directions the best way is to do it through the brake booster then see if it still happens

Still pings!

The heads were new but tried seafoam no luck. The motor has new plugs and wires, MAF, Fuel filter (pressure at 68-70). replaced thermostat and temp sensor. Does not ping when you first start out but the longer it runs the worse it gets. Its driving me nuts

Sounds like maybe the pistons weren't de-carbonized when the heads were off.
