when i had my mustang that car hated autolite plugs

our trucks come with motorcraft stock, Ive heard that autolite and motorcraft are basically the same thing. If you want to play it safe just get motorcraft ones.

THEN AGAIN...i have a 3.0, i don't know whats exactly recommended for a 4.0

Taylor 06-21-2010 08:40 PM

bump. What is the best spark plug for the 4.0l SOHC? I was thinking autolite double plat., but does anybody have a part # or something. I dont want to get the wrong plug.

pcollins 06-21-2010 09:30 PM

if you don't like what the parts store gives you (most likely champions) just ask them if they have the motorcraft plugs for your truck. or go right to ford.

rolsmojave3 06-22-2010 09:11 AM

I just went to Ford and got the factory platinums.

04blackedge 06-22-2010 09:14 AM

Motorcraft plats

01_ranger_4x4 06-22-2010 10:19 AM

motorcraft plugs for sure. dont waste your money on bosch.

I'll be installing the NGK V-Power TR55 3951 tomorrow so hopefully they work good for me

kc8qmu 06-22-2010 07:55 PM

Replaced mine at 50k with Autolite Double Platinums......... and just a word of advice, have the parts store cross reference vs. the part number in the manual........ Autozone showed they didnt stock the plugs I needed until I gave them the actual part number..... crazy computers.....

Taylor 06-22-2010 08:18 PM

ill go to Ford dealership this weekend and probably pick some up.

PW01 06-23-2010 03:18 AM

I used Autolite Iridium plugs

NGK V-Power TR55 3951 .054
NGK G-Power Platinum TR55GP 3403 .054
NGK Laser Platinum PTR5F-11 6579 .054
NGK OE Laser Iridium ITR5F13 6044 .054
NGK Iridium IX TR55IX 7164 .054

maybe none of those will work

jcsvox 06-23-2010 10:53 AM

cheese_man 06-23-2010 08:09 PM

Did you notice any difference in performance? Also what type of driving are you doing? (highway, city)

cheese_man 06-23-2010 08:46 PM

both
idle is very smooth now
acceleration is kick ass
engine fires after the 2nd crank ( usually took 5 or more with the factory iridium plugs )
my fuel ecomony is still rising

ranger_guy 06-30-2010 07:12 AM

i use Bosch 4"s and my truck fires right up no problem 4,0 ohv 1998 162k miles

malibu2733 06-30-2010 03:20 PM

so champions are the way to go? Cause I am going to change mine this weekend and I have a 4.0 and was thinking about going with ngk v power plugs but now I read this

04blackedge 06-30-2010 03:24 PM

No, I never run champion in my vehicles. Champions are stuck to my lawnmowers. Autolite/Motorcraft is the way to go
