well, you should have a rev limiter at roughly 3k unless you have a tuner
Not all are marked like mine. Look at bigwill's thread, his doesnt have it marked either

I know the 2001+ have a limiter in park and neutral of 3000...
Speaking of limiter I was on a very small construction on ramp yesterday
and my tach hit the 40 on the speedo.
It was seriously about an inch past the 6 on the tach.
(there is no reline on the tach but I understood its around 6200??)
Yey apten chip (when I blow up my engine lol)

I thought the 6200 number was where the rev-limiter kicked in. Those of us w/o autos will be able to hit it in neutral or w/ the clutch in at will. I wouldn't worry about it though. The rev-limiter is there to protect the engine. In the days before limiters red lines were painted on the tachs so that we would protect our engines.. nowadays the computer does it for us.
There's barely a need for the tach in our trucks anyhow. In my experience the engine pretty well quits making power past 5000-5500 RPM or so. If you haven't shifted before hitting the limiter you're just making noise..

On the original topic, there is no rev limiter in park on the OHV like the newer ones, at least not that I'v ever hit.. first time I ever experianced that on an OHC I was like WTF IS THAT!

i've had experience with both the SOHC and the OHV...
i'd beat the snot out of the SOHC. however, i was brave enough to push it all the way to the top only once, and i wasn't too comfortable with that. otherwise, i never seemed to have a problem... it actually seemed to like it.
the OHV... i didn't drive for nearly as long as the SOHC, but i never had any problems/explosions/spontaneous combustions.
then again... i tend to be pretty darn reckless. i guess you could say im not exactly a role model
either way, tippin 4500 ain't no biggie.
