Rear main seal replacement
Rear main seal replacement
I’m doing a complete rebuild on an 04 4.0L Ranger, and was curious if you are supposed to put any kind of sealant between the new wear sleeve and the crankshaft when installing the new seal. I bought the installer tool and already put the new seal in, but I wished as soon as I pushed the new seal in place that I would have put a little RTV on the inside where it’s metal on metal. Does it seal fine without any additional sealant?
I suppose it’s because the new metal sleeve will spin any oil off of it before it could work its way through out of the back of the engine.
I don't know but I always assumed it was the tight fit of metal "outside" of the seal and the block itself.
PCV systems should be kept in good operational form as it reduces crankcase pressure.
Excessive crankcase pressure pushes oil out.
