removing an o2 sensor for good...

Right now I have a junk single flowmaster exhaust that dumps out before the rear axle.
I'm wanting to cut it off before the cats and bend it to the side.

My question is, my truck has 3 o2's, 2 below each exhaust mani and 1 after the cats...if i remove the one after the cats will the truck start running lien or rich or will it compensate for losing one and just use the remaining two and run normal?

Thanks.

just take them all out and get a tune so it thinks the o2's are there. my buddy does this on his gti with a GIAC chipped ecu

This is a Ranger we are talking about. Why would you want to do that?

The rear o2 monitors the efficiency of the cats. Removing it wont effect the a/f ratio but your truck will throw a CEL. Why take it off? You wont gain power in any way.

i don't care about a CEL, its just a light. :P
i just want a short exhaust out behind my passenger side tire and there wont be room for any cats.
thanks for letting me know though.
much appreciated.

Good luck. Not worth it in my opinion. Its going to sound like ass.

better than how it sounds now and no more rattling of the muffler. :P

btw, how do you like that 700se?
i have a mildly modded banshee I take to the dunes and I'm looking to get another bike for the trails.

Dude i KNow what your problem is!! its sooo easy.. if you have rattling from the mufflers, all you have to do is replace the muffler bearings!!!! DUHHHH

oh really? sh!t. why didn't i think of that. thanks man.

where is that from?
i remember seeing a youtube video with that in it. haha.

The only problem with havin the CEL light on, is when something does go wrong, you arent going to know.

As for the muffler bearings, when was the last time you repacked them?

PwrRngr Jun 22, 2009 02:27 PM

hmm, thats true.
if i put that o2 sensor towards the end of the pipe will it keep the CEL from showing up or does there NEED to be cats before it?
I know theres some of you with catless exhausts...chime in.

never! i better get on that. huh? :P

No it has to be a certain distance from the cats to give out the proper reading.

You can get a tuner and ask them to delete the O2 sensor.

IMO it is alot of work to do all of this. Just dump it IMO

I love it man. Its perfect for my size. I almost bought a 450 instead but it felt way too small when I tried it out. It handles dune like nothing even being stock. I do plan on modding it later but right now I'm working on paying it off.

I have question, figure I'd ask it here considering it is relivent to the thread. I want to delete the 2 cats right before the exhaust. If i get a new O2 sensor whole drilled into the new pipe that will be there will a CEL come up?

chainfire Jun 22, 2009 03:49 PM

Yeah because the cats clean out your exhaust. When there is nothing cleaning it, then you are going to run into problems because the o2 sensor is reading wrong.

But why eliminate them?

.
because they're are 4 of them, you don't need 4 just 2 IMO. If its going to throw up a CEL I won't do it.
