Ok gentlemen - yesterday I drove the truck up on my Rhino ramps and crawled under and could very easy see the filter. Found out my channel locks were to small so ran back down to Napa, took the new filter along and bought a filter cap wrench that fit. Now on another thread I read using the search filter, I cut the top off a two liter bottle and after I loosened the filter, I put it over the filter and screwed it loose and slowly lowered it and did not spill a drop!!!! That was the best advice I had ever read. I changed the oil in my wife's Corolla before I did the Ranger and got my arm soaked taking the filter off. Now I think a 1 litre bottle should work on that filter so no more spill. I love these forums. So thanks for all the replies!

Wow. I am going to start drinking 2L diet cokes a few weeks before I change the oil again. I absolutley hate changing the oil on my 4.0 ranger. It soakes me and the underside of the truck.

Thanks for th tip.
