99 Ranger wont start

My son has a 99 Ranger with the 4.0. He was driving it the other day and the oil pressure gauge dropped and the engine quit. It will not start at all. Any help would be appreciated

umm if you lost oil pressure and it quit it locked the motor you need a new motor.

thats what i thought, but i have never had a vehicle that the gauge drop and the engine cuts off immediately, I know on older vehicles if the oil pressure dropped you could drive it until the engine seized.

Once the gauge dropped there wasnt even enough time to shut off the motor, it just quit on its own ?

the gauges in the rangers suck. it probably got low and the gauge didn't show it. i drove my dad f150 for almost 10 miles with out oil pressure when his went. time to find a new 4.0 good luck

The oil pressure gauge is fake. It either you have more than 5-7psi or you don't.

Put a breaker bar on the crank and see if you can spin the engine by hand.

i think downey might be jumping the gun. im not saying hes wrong but, you can lose all oil pressure and still have a good engine. like said above, check if the engine turns over. if it does, do a compression check on each cylinder.
