Replacing front main seal?

Hey everyone, the other day we tried replacing the front main seal in my truck. We had one of those pullers attached to it, but we kept cranking and cranking. It seemed as if it was about to snap. Is that the correct way to get the harmonic balancer off? Any help/suggestions?

I bet you were pushing and pulling against the pulley at the same time.

The center bolt of the pulley puller cannot hit against the pulley. An accepted method is to remove the center bolt from the pulley itself, then install a longer bolt in the hole. It cannot be up against the pulley. The center bolt of the puller will push off of this bolt head instead of the pulley. It can only pull out until it meets the bolt head (thus the longer bolt).
