4.0L supercharger?

ive decided to supercharge my truck and do some other things in a few months when ive got a job that will support these expedentures.

does anybody know of a company that makes good superchargers for the 4.0L or may have one in a few months? ive searched whipple, vortech, and power...(kickin myself for not remembering wut the name was). no luck on the 'charger.

ive got straight pipe to muffler right now, so after i get the 'charger, would long tube headers or shorties help me in anyway? anything else since im getting a bit to the extremes? (91 octane with gas prices still rising, oh lordy)

Sure.. everyone will say how easy a bolt on the EE Kit is and find a million flaws with what I said. Doesn't change that 4grand for 75 ponies is just not worth the money. Go buy a used 5.0 for 4grand, it would be money better spent.

I knew you would be the one to get it right D!!

Jon - not sure about the hood clearance in your Mustang but the Eaton unit that Leo posted the link to is for your engine

smal turbo in the long run with engine work would crank out more power. You spend 4 grand on a turbo and engine work and you will easily have a 300+ hp mini... and a S/C's dont make that cool Pssssssssssssst sound every shift lol. Turbos use wasted engergy, so why not put that energy to good use. A s/c adds another pully, which takes hp to make hp. No2 is in a whole different class, i personally wouldn't like it, i would have my finger on the button everyday. And there is so many ways to upgrade a turbo, you can water cool the air, you can use a No2 cooling system, intercooler. Just some ideas people. In my opinion a turbo has a greater advantage over a s/c.

turbos are good to boost horsepower
superchargers are better to boost torque
torque is what a truck, especially a 4x4 or 2WD set up for off road use wants
horsepower is for speed, torque if for stump pulling muscle
unless you have a street set up, a surpercharger is how you want to boost your truck's engine power

Yes. But you can do a lot to a 4.0 to make that torque go up. Cams, chip/tuner, headers, and the right muffler.

if you had a choice and wanted bolt on power for a truck that is not a street runner or a drag specialist a supercharger is a better choice than a turbo
why pay for all those items to make up the torque difference when you could just pick the proper aftermarket part to start with
power comes on earlier in the band and you want the torque in the woods or the mud - a supercharger just seems logical for these requirements

It's just choice tho, I would rather have the turbo and cams, pistons, etc. for my truck than an Eaton s/c. I hardly will ever good offroad, and I drive the truck a lot, on the hwy, on the streets. A turbo would just be the better choice for me i think. Sure a s/c would be nice, but that 4 grand is a retarded price. Turbos are cheaper than s/c in most cases, which is nice since im not Bill Gates status.

The EE kit is so limited from the start. If they would sell the kit without the unit itself , you could snag a MP90.. have Doug write a program and see 125 ponies.. It would be worth 4 grand then.

The SOHC has an upper oilpan and a lower. The Upper acts as a botom end stud girdle. Its VERY strong. The pistons are forged from the factory. The weak link are the rods. It is possible ( I think doug did it once ) to use a set of rods from an OHV with an SOHC to achieve better then factory strength.

If the bottom end and block can take the boost, why not push the limits some? For 4 grand?!?!?!

Most tune shops do custom work. You can buy a paxton head unit or even a PS1C from ATI for 1500$. I'm QUITE sure an innercooler ( something the EE kit couldn't dream of having ), having tubing bent, new roush injectors would be less then 2500 and yield QUITE a bit more then 75 ponies.

Heres what busts a lot of peoples stones...

The cries from the gallows when whipple announced a 3.0 supercharger kit. Everyone was lining up at the door to get them, or praises were sung to that song.. I think I can name all of 3 people that followed through and one of them now has a mustang.

That Explorer Express kit.. It's designed for people whom won't look in their local yellow pages for a dyno/tune shop in their area that will do the work OR folks won't do the legwork for themselves.

Not to sure but I think this guy knows more than God himself!!! When you decide to try the 90 or 112 over the 62 think about it this way... IT TAKES POWER TO MAKE POWER THEREFORE YOU HAVE TO USE MORE HP FROM YOUR ROTATING ASSEMBLY TO MAKE ANY BOOST FEASABLE FOR GOOD HP#S... ANOTHER WAY TO LOOK AT THIS IS THE 112 WAS DESIGNED FOR A V8 ENGINE AND UNLESS YOU HAVE VERY BIG CYLINDERS ON YOUR V6 YOU WILL MAKE A WHOLE LOT OF INEFFICIENT BOOST AND ALSO THIS RESULTS IN A BUNCH OF HEAT TOO... HMM WHOSE NOT USING THEIR OVERENGINEERED NOGGIN???????? NOT THAT IM MAD I JUST HAVE ALWAYS SAID "DONT KNOCK IT TIL U TRY IT" AND IF U WANNA TRY IT LETS MEET UP... OH YEA ONE MORE THING THE EE KIT IS CAPABLE OF BEING INTERCOOLED BECAUSE GUESS WHAT I HAVE ONE AND ILL BET SOME OF U GUYS CANT SEE CHARGE TEMPS OF 70 DEGREES FAR. JUST VOICING MY OPINION AINT THAT WHAT WE ARE ALL HERE FOR?????
