EDIT: Just went out. On my 87 octane tune pushing 16degrees of timing I got 240hp at 5100 to 5500

Rich

I have never read the TQ on mine.

Mine seems to read the high number right after i let off. in about 3rd gear going 70ish. THe scangauge has a slight delay on the reading.

These are the actuals at the crank for the 4.0L OHC, and 4.0L SOHC from Ford for reference. From this, you can get an idea of how far off the "derived" technique is
using a tuner:

Be careful with the "derived" technique using a tuner, it can have accuracy problems, that is my point.

Did you do a dyno run to get that number? Btw how much psi. are you hitting?

5.5 max psi so far.

no that is what the scangauge is reading at the crank. that is why i put it in this thread. i dont know for sure if it makes that much, but we are all posting the same way from the same trucks, has to be a pretty fair comparison.

oh i know. i jsut wanted to make sure you understood where i got the number.

i mean for reading a max of 252 before the charger and now 336 on the same gauge. id say there was a decent improvement!

yeah if i was you id try to get the tune from Doug.

Zach, do you have the "rate" set to high? Also, one other thing you can do to speed up the refresh rate is to set them all to one reading. That's makes it nearly instant... except for "HP".

Horse power is not real except on a farm... with horses. It's a calculation that's derived from TQ vs rpms.
(Torque x Engine speed) / 5,252 = Horsepower
So.. setting them all to HP won't help speed it up.

What I do it set both LH readings to TQ, the RH top to HP and the RH bott to TQ.

btw, everytime you unplug the scanguage you need to reset the "rate" to high.

IF HP is not real except to horses on a farm, the equation of HP as a function of torque and RPM could not be true. HP is a widely used metric, as you can see from the Ford dyno chart I posted.

Oh That would make sense then, its been unplugged a few times since I set that rate.

Here is a link for anyone who wants to understand what "horsepower" is and where the term came from.

As far as modern day autos, a far better way to understand acceleration is engine torque, gear ratios (tranny & rear end), and tire diameter. The term horsepower only adds confusion to the power of an engine and how to make it work best for the intended use. (TQ curve vs gear ratios is what you really want to understand)

On my way home I hit a stretch of road that wasn't busy and nailed it to the floor hitting 94mph with 364 HP. at 5683 RPM. As I was getting passed by a 2008 subaru legacy twin turbo... He must of been doing at least 120!!!

Mine hits about 280 and above. Maybe I was in the wrong gear. Either way I never watch horsepower.
