shock emergency

today i got my kyb monomax's installed at a shop cuz its to cold and slippery and i was tired of seeing my shocks just layin there. i just got home from my girl's house and on the way home i noticed a rustling, almost want to say loose kinda sound coming from my driver's side shock. I tryed to look at it but there is no light and its cold and getting late. should i drive it to work tomm? or is the sound just the shock getting broken in?

Sounds like the rubber bushing wasn't installed correctly if it was the front (I'm assuming). I would check to see if the stock moves around near the upper mount and if the nut is tight on the stud.

my light cost $120. but well worth it

a shock isn't VITAL, it doesn't hold up the truck or anything.. so yea, drive to work.

a shock issue can hardly ever be an emergency.. unless its an airshock or coil over.. the worst i see happening is it getting caught in the tire and shearing the shock apart or mangling one of the shock mounts

Yup. I drove around for a week with no shock period. Now my shocks are shot and I am still driving around with them in. LOL So yeah its not an emergency.

A new shock should not make any noise at all. They don't need to break in.

There are only two things it could be...a bushing that has worked its way out or a loose bolt.

It will be okay to drive the truck. I drove my '01 Ranger with the lower bushing on one shock completely loose for days. I also drove my Explorer with a broken shock mount for a long time. All the shocks do is dampen suspension movement, they don't hold it together or anything.

When i installed some shocks on a van awhile ago they are set up the same way as the newer rangers. When you tighten the top shock nut you need to make sure the shaft is not spinning around when you tighten the top nut or it won't tighten properly.

DO NOT THROW A MAG LIGHT!!!! I did on accident (well not really but he know it was coming and we were goofing around) and this is what happened, cracked upper and lower jaw, 3 shattered teeth and 7 stitches, and 4 hours in the ER at 1am.

ah yeah a shock comming off of a mount and hitting the tire is bad, REAL BAD! If it doesnt blow the tire right away it will rub on the tire until it wears through and then the tire will blow. I see that and broken springs probably once every other week. If you have a warentee on your tires, more then likely broken mechanical parts void that warentee. I know ours doesnt cover it.

I would go get that checked out. Or wait till it breaks, get in a horrible accident and sue for millions!
