sloppy shift linkage on automatic

hi all,
96 ranger, 4.0 (new reman long block), automatic (rebuilt last year), 4wd, tires are 235/75r15 (should be 265/75r15 according to door sticker)

question is what causes sloppy shifting from park to any other selection?

i wont take it back to the shop that did the tranny rebuild the first time (took 3 months to get back and 7 rebuilds to find out the valve body had a hair line crack)

thanks in advance
kobin

Google: Ford ranger column shifter

There are a few common reasons for the sloppy shifter on ALL ford trucks with column shifters

^^^ +1 ^^^

Another is simply a bolt that sometimes backs out that holds your column shifter to the linkage under the dash. Luckily, mine was just that. Easy, 10-20 minute fix.

yep the video above was the fix! mine is a 96 so the two bolts face away from the drivers seat and kind of a pita to get to but doable they take a t25 socket!

thanks all for the replies
