SOHV vs. OHV
 

I have a 2000 ranger v6 4.0, and I want to buy bolt-on's for it but some part are for SOHV, and some are for OHV, I know what they mean, but how the hell do I know what my truck is? :shrug: :shrug:

You know what they mean? I don't think there is a thing such as a SOHV. Really? Yeah. There is a SOHC and a OHV.

I believe that your truck is the OHV, a.k.a. pushrod engine.

The SOHC has rotating cams located above the head [hence, OHC, Over Head Cam].

You should search on this site some, or even Google to find out. It's been covered here on the site, you have the OHV.

Yours is the OHV.They did not put the SOHC in the Ranger until 2001.Basically the OHV stands for Over Head Valve meaning the camshaft is in the conventional locaton in the block.SOHC stands for Single Over Head Cam meaning it has one camshaft on top of each head.

as said above yours should be OHV

I went through the same thing, but with variances in the OHV motors. I have a like, test bed of the 1995 fleet where they changed some things on some truck, kept the same on others and nobody makes the parts from the same place to do the same thing for the same price.

Ok, so who make a bigger throttle body for a OHV?

Well, why would you need a bigger throttle body? Are you planning on running some sort of forced induction, because really, that won't do much for perfomance by itself. It's like replacing your MAF with a larger diameter MAF. Sure, you can get more air, but the computer is just going to compensate for it and restrict it anyway.

If you are looking for 'bang-for-the-buck' performance mods, check out www.bamachips.com for a custom made computer chip to do exactly what you want it to do.

You could also check out some cold-air intakes by K&N, Volant, AirRaid and many others.

How about some exhaust? That might work for you. Headers? Chip? Electric Fan -- all the little things make a difference.

Yeah, i KNOW, I already have headers and exhast, just wanted to push more...see what happens, I have a volant intake kit, jbl headers and exhast, I'll check out that chip though thanks for the tip

larger TBs wont help on a stock engine. unless u have internal work or a forced induction u wont see any significant difference. u may see some throttle response increase but its not a real gain...
