need help bad

i need help, truck will turn over but it wont start. my guess is its fire/or fuel, but i just put a new coil pack on it (sceamin demon) not to long ago. but for the past few weeks its had some troble starting ,by that i mean it would crank right up but it would miss for a few secounds, but once it warmed up it would run fine and this morning i go to crank it and all it does is turns over. i tried to listin for my fuel pump and i can hear a very weak humming, but is there a posabilty that my fuel pump is bad . its a 1998 ford ranger 4x4 with a 4.0

Is there any fuel in the injection system? Any fire at the plug? Check those 1st, start ruling stuff out. You need fire, air, and fuel to make it run.

try not to use any starting fluid because that will cause extreme wear for a few min.

well i think my problem might be fuel, because i pressed the schrader valve on the fuel rail and only a little dribble came out. so i tried primeing it agian, same thing only a little dribble.so if the fuel pump was weak would that cause that .or what could cause that

I'd first rule out spark. Pull a plug, ground it, and have someone crank it. At least that way your not chasing your own tail.

I'd sure think youd get a spray on the schrader valve. But again.. I'd rule out spark. It won't take but 5 minutes and it's free.

check the resistance on the spark plugs wires, if they are good then I would chase after the fuel pump and as long as you are changing the fuel pump go ahead and change out the fuel filter.

I'm not sure about your truck. But there may be a relay that powers the pump.

there may be a clog further up the line near the fuel injectors/fuel rail.
